Date:  January 18, 2017

Prior to the call to order, Janet Hooper of Mattie Williams Neighborhood Center, spoke to us to thank us for our continuing support.  She explained what the Center does and how many people it helps.  Very interesting and informative.

Call to Order: Time:  10:00 a.m.
Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches

Welcome Statement:   Jo Clark, President, welcomed all to the meeting.
Our hostesses were thanked for providing the refreshments.

Committee Reports:

Secretary / Minutes:

The minutes from the last general meeting in November were approved.  All minutes are on the Club website for everyone to see and catch up on what they missed. Thank you to Judith Zaccaria for her expertise in posting the minutes.

Treasurer Report:
The current balance is $1,942 after expenses from the catered Christmas luncheon and miscellaneous expenses.  We also donated $500 each to Mattie Williams and the Sheriffs Youth Ranch from the profits of $1,043 from the plant sale in December.

Membership:
Judith reports  81 active  members.  Membership dues of $20 are due before April.  Since there will be no meeting in March due to a trip, please try to pay at the February meeting. Cash or check, please.

We will need a nominating committee for the 2017/18 Officers.  Open positions will include President, Vice President, and Recording Secretary.  Judith and Gisela will head up committee which technically should have 4 members.  Nominations/volunteers will be discussed at the February general meeting and voted upon by email or confirmed in March.  New officers will be installed at our picnic in April.
Trips:  Pat Gilliland and Kay Broderick volunteered to coordinate trips for the Club. People will need to RSVP and plan to attend.  No refunds on paid trips.  Kay discussed a bus trip to Crone’s Cradle up in Citra, south of Gainesville, on Friday, March 31.  This will be in place of our March meeting.  The cost will be $40 and will include a lunch provided by the Preserve. Will be an all-day trip, 8:30 -  6:00 approximately.   Please sign up and pay by the February meeting.
Crone’s Cradle has an interesting website.

Old Business:
Our next meeting will be February 15. Ron Altic is working on a speaker.

New Business:

Our Hospitality Committee needs a chairperson and a new member immediately.
Wanda Sorrells has been making the coffee and would like to step down from that responsibility, but will remain on the committee.  We have contributors for the food in February but after that, it will be no treats unless someone volunteers!

The Belle Aire Garden Club will be hosting an orchid extravaganza on Wednesday, Feb 1, according to Sharon Meininger, and all are invited.

On Wednesday, Feb. 8, Sandy Huff will be hosting her annual Weiner Roast at her home from 11 – 2.  Please bring a side dish.  Hot dogs and fixings are available. $3 each person.  The Garden Club Board will meet that day at 10 am on Sandy’s deck for our monthly meeting.

Ron Altic introduced Dave Johnston of Bromeliads Galore, who was a wonderful speaker and who brought many varieties to show and sell. Very educational and informative.

Adjournment time:  11:10 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Faith Nicholas
